You’ve come to the right place if you’re seeking an Art Deco home for sale in Miami or the Miami-Dade County area! Owning one of these gorgeous properties is a fantastic option as a primary residence or as an investment opportunity.

Not only is an Art Deco property in Florida typically well-maintained, but they’re also close to features that any homeowner would be looking for: fitness centers, spas, dining, and entertainment venues – the possibilities are virtually endless. Even if you aren’t looking to buy in Miami or Florida right now, these unique residences are worth researching if you’re considering Art Deco living in the future.

Characteristics Of Miami Art Deco Properties

These Miami homes offer potential buyers a unique blend of luxury, elegance, and Art Deco architectural features. The signature characteristics of these properties include pastel-colored stuccos, bright accents, whimsical façade decorations, and curved railings.

Many Art Deco properties have large terraces surrounded by tall palm trees and large swimming pools with gorgeous Miami views. Inside the residences, you’ll find plenty of updated modern touches, such as high-end kitchens, spa-inspired bathrooms with steam showers, and intelligent home systems.

Homeowners can also expect lush green landscaping and fountains or waterfalls in their outdoor spaces. With its iconic architecture, convenient waterfront access, and luxurious amenities, owning an authentic Art Deco residence is the ultimate Miami real estate dream come true!

Different Types Of Art Deco In Florida

From South Beach to Midtown Miami, there are plenty of options for finding the perfect home for sale that has Art Deco features. Below are a few different types and styles of Art Deco architecture in South Florida.

    South Beach Art Deco

Located at the tip of Miami Beach, the South Beach district is home to hundreds of incredible Art Deco examples of architecture. The colorful apartment complexes and commercial buildings that line the streets in the South Beach Art Deco District are tremendous and have been featured on TV, in movies, and on postcards worldwide.

Some of the most well-known South Beach Art Deco condos are on Meridian Avenue and Michigan Ave., such as Tribeca and Bali South Beach. Down the street, you can discover Harriet Court on Pennsylvania Ave. and San Sebastian on Drexel Ave. These are exceptional Art Deco properties in Miami Beach, FL, as each has a pool – a rarity for a boutique building. Restoration quality and attention to detail make them among the best in the area.

If you are looking for an Art Deco house in South Beach, you can find single-family homes on Michigan Ave. across from Flamingo Park and Flamingo Drive. You can also find beautiful Art Deco waterfront homes for sale directly on Biscayne Bay in neighborhoods such as Morningside and the Upper East Side. Take note that the price of a single-family Art Deco house on the water is much higher than that of a condominium.

    Tropical Art Deco

Art Deco style is featured in the elegant buildings that sprang up in every big city in the 1920s. It was less decorative and relied more on machine-inspired forms and American ideas in industrial design. Miami Beach’s boom came during the 2nd Phase of Art Deco, Streamline Moderne, which began with the stock market crash and ended, in most cases, with the outbreak of World War II.

Miami Beach architects used local imagery to create “Tropical Deco.” These Art Deco homes feature relief ornamentation with flora, fauna, and ocean-liner motifs to reinforce the image of Miami Beach as a seaside resort. Look for symmetry, ziggurat rooflines, decorative panels, eyebrows, porthole windows, terrazzo, curves, elements in groups of three, and the use of neon.

    Mediterranean Revival

Mediterranean Revival buildings evoke an Old World feel, featuring decorative columns, arched windows, clay barrel tile roofs, rough stucco walls, wrought iron, and spindle gates guarding picturesque courtyards. These Miami Beach buildings are a whimsical interpretation of the old world, combining elements from differing Mediterranean styles resulting in a “fantasy” architecture adopted by early 1920s Miami Beach, FL, developers and elsewhere in Florida and California.

The Spanish Village between Washington Ave. and Pennsylvania Ave., known as Española Way in South Beach, is a great place to explore and look at this Mediterranean-style architecture. Look for bell towers, archways, awnings, porches, balconies, carved stonework, rough stucco walls, clay tiles, and wrought iron fixtures.

    Miami Modern (MiMo)

The MiMo design style became popular in the 1950s and was heavily influenced by the International Style taught in most architecture schools. Miami Beach architects carried on the whimsical tropical tradition using new materials and forms. Eyebrows gave way to metal louvers and sunshades, and tiled mosaic walls became popular, as did open balconies and catwalks. A Miami Beach variant, the Garden Style, features apartments accessed through open-air walkways built around a central garden.

Look for asymmetry and rakish angles, cheese hole cutouts, kidney and amoeba shapes, futuristic jet and space age forms, mosaic murals, and anodized aluminum in gold and copper. The nautical influence is predominant in the Lincoln Cinema, Publix on the Bay, Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, and Miami City Ballet buildings.

Most of the Art Deco examples are located in Miami Beach, although they can be found everywhere: from the Upper East Side down to Coconut Grove and even Coral Gables. However, Miami Beach is world-famous for its Art Deco concentration and offers the most variety.
