On the record: Miami-Dade County said in a release on 28 October 2026 that Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced a marketing and advertising package valued at $3.9 million ahead of the 19 November release of Grand Theft Auto VI. It includes an agreement between the county and Rockstar Games and separate ad purchases through the companies that manage ad space at Miami International Airport and on the county’s transportation system.
What is in it
The county release says the Welcome to Vice City rooftop display at the county-owned Kaseya Center is part of an earlier $975,000 arrangement with Rockstar, included in the $3.9 million. Rockstar covers production and installation of that display. Planned installations are themed lighting at the airport and PortMiami, promotional displays on walkways between airport parking garages and terminals, and decorative wraps on selected traffic signal cabinets. Rockstar pays to install, maintain and remove the ads, and the release says designs remain subject to county approval.

WLRN (Sofia Zarran and Joshua Ceballos, 29 October 2026) reported that the cities of Miami and Miami Beach made their own advertising arrangements with Rockstar. The mayor said in the release: “we have an opportunity to make sure Miami-Dade benefits from that attention.”
The park at Dan Paul Plaza
The release says the county has allocated the $975,000 to the long-awaited public park at Dan Paul Plaza, behind the arena. Miami New Times (Allison Beck, 29 October 2026) quoted the mayor’s communications director, Carlos Suarez, saying the full $975,000 went to that project. WLRN described the park as stalled for more than 30 years. None of the three reports I read gives a park design, a total budget or an opening date.
What critics said
WLRN reported on 29 October 2026 that Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and County Commissioner J.C. Bermudez criticized the mayor’s embrace of the game, citing its depiction of crime and violence against police officers. It also reported that several commissioners objected that the agreements moved ahead without a vote of the full commission.
My view
I sell downtown condos, and the one piece of this that touches a Miami neighborhood is that park. The sources describe money set aside for it, not a park that exists. I am not drawing any line to home values, and nothing I read does.
