Plans to redevelop the Shore Club in Miami Beach are moving forward, despite opposition from Setai Resort & Residences. The Miami Historic Preservation Board voted against a rehearing of the proposal, which was approved four months ago.
Witkoff and Monroe Capital’s plans to redevelop the Shore Club Hotel — and rebrand it as Auberge — have been given the green light by Miami Beach’s Historic Preservation Board!
Despite some initial pushback, the board voted 4-1 to deny the petitions of Setai Resort & Residences to rehear the proposal, with only board member Stuart Reed voting for a rerun. Companies associated with the condominium development and the Nakash family have been working to block the project.
However, the board has determined that Witkoff and Monroe’s plan is consistent with the character of the historic area and will not diminish its value.
After receiving approval from Miami Beach’s Historic Preservation Board, the two developers can begin work on transforming one of South Florida’s most iconic properties into a luxury resort destination.
The Shore Club, a historic Art Deco hotel located on 1901 Collins Avenue, has been part of the local landscape since its opening in 1939. The shuttered Shore Club Hotel was designed by architect David Chipperfield and featured lush landscape foliage highlighting the art deco-style architecture.
Since then, it has become one of the iconic properties that flank South Beach with the Delano and The Setai.
Witkoff and Monroe Capital plan to restore the historic building, keeping much of its character intact. A historic preservation consultant, Kobi Karp Architecture & Interior Design, and Robert A.M. Stern Architects have been tasked with preserving the building’s unique elements, such as the historic structures of the original Cromwell and Shore Club hotels
The developers have planned to add several new, luxurious amenities that will act as a highlight of Miami Beach. These include three pool decks for hotel and residential use, an exterior dining area, and an exterior cafe- all set amid a tropical paradise.
It complements the surrounding community while preserving the historic integrity of the building and its relationship with the natural environment.
The Miami Beach property will also boast 65 posh hotel suites, fusing classic elegance with modern luxury while maintaining historical integrity.
Josh Stein, a luxury Miami real estate agent, said the Shore Club Private Collection will be one of the most luxurious residential projects in the history of Miami Beach and South Florida . “This project will bring a level of luxury living into South Beach condos for sale not seen before and will help revive an important part of its history,” he said.
Now that the project has been approved, Witkoff and Monroe look forward to bringing their vision of the Shore Club Hotel’s revival to life. The Miami new construction developers have officially started and limited units are available. For VIP pricing and detailed information, please contact Josh Stein at (305) 695-8257.
